Group Info

We're a group dedicated to the primitive, lesser-known creatures from the Paleozoic to the early Mesozoic era. This includes animals such as trilobites, synapsids, early fish and amphibians, and primitive dinosaurs.

**The time period this group focuses on is the Cambrian (approx. 542 million years ago) to the end of the early Jurassic (Toarcian, approx 175 million years ago).**

If you are unsure whether your submission fits the group focus, look up the names of the animals featured in your work. Wikipedia is an excellent resource, and typically lists the age extinct animals lived in within articles.

If you have or find a piece you would like to submit to the group favourites, feel free to do so! I wasn't sure if I wanted to bother with them, but there's been some interest in submitting deviations there. Incidentally, if you tried submitting something for the favourites gallery and it was rejected (assuming it was of reasonably high quality artistically), you may absolutely resubmit it. By high quality, I mean pieces approximately like these: ancient-beasts.deviantart.com/… , ancient-beasts.deviantart.com/… , ancient-beasts.deviantart.com/… , ancient-beasts.deviantart.com/…

Also, favourites suggestions do not have to strictly adhere to the group's time period focus, as do most of the galleries. As long as it is related to extinct creatures and is well done, it'll be accepted.

I was wondering, do you accept drawings of the fossils themselves as well as renditions of them in life? I have a pair, :thumb409002923: and  :thumb408997649: and I'm trying to find a group to settle them down in.

Yes, as long as the fossil is of a species that existed during the time period stated on the main page, fossil drawings are good to go here.

No, the cut off is the Early Jurassic period, about 175 million years ago.

whoops, my Cambrian Mat picture accidentally ended up in the Triassic dinosaur gallery. It should be in the invertebrate gallery. Sorry about that.

I'm trying to submit some of my works, but I'm able to choose only "primitive dinosaurs", "acquatic life", "synapsids" and "speculative" folders.
